As our enquiries have significantly increased for African holidays including family trips, safaris and luxury honeymoons, we have been lucky enough to meet and partner with a team of specialists whose ethos and approach fit perfectly with our own. With over 35 years’ combined experience of visiting Africa and creating unique adventures for clients, Rob and Clyde’s knowledge of and passion for exploring the ‘real’ Africa is second-to-none. In the same way that we like to work very closely with our clients on a brief to really understand what it is you want out of your holiday as well as your personal interests, their approach is all about tailor-made itineraries, whether you’re travelling as a couple, a family or alone. We are very excited to be working together and are already planning some fabulous itineraries for clients.
Here’s a little introduction to Rob and Clyde:
Clyde was born in Norway and his parents emigrated to Zimbabwe when he was seven years old. At the age of seventeen, he started working as a fishing guide at the lodge they managed on the banks of Lake Kariba, and from there started his training to become a professional guide. His experience in the safari industry spans 23 years and during that time he has explored Namibia’s wild Skeleton Coast National Park, canoed along the Lower Zambezi in Zimbabwe, flown over Botswana’s Okavango Delta by helicopter, and swum alongside humpback whales off Mafia Island, Tanzania, to name a few.
Rob got his first glimpse of Africa on a Kenyan safari aged 13, and he’s been hooked ever since. He has visited the continent countless times to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, ran in the Sierra Leone Marathon, trekked with mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, wandered the Anglo-Zulu battlefields of Kwa-Zulu Natal, visited Ghana’s former slave castles, and listened to the distinctive songs of Madagascar’s indri.
With this exciting news, what better way to inspire you and give a taster of our new partnership than sharing this wonderful South Africa & Western Cape 13 night itinerary which covers a combination of time in beautiful Cape Town, the Winelands, the Whale Coast at stunning Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and then the ‘Big Five’ at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve.
Stay at the wonderful Cape Grace Hotel on the V & A Waterfront. With access to all the wonderful shops, restaurants and activities there is something for everyone. The Cape Grace is a stunning luxury hotel and it is also really good with kids especially. Of course when you are in Cape Town, your visit must include Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Boulders Beach Penguin colony and the beautiful Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens!
Rob’s Top Tip: The bar, Bascule, is a great spot for a cheeky sundowner drink overlooking the Waterfront!
After Cape Town you head off to the Winelands and stay for 3 nights at Babylonstoren Farm. This area is truly stunning and just an hour’s drive from the city. At Babylonstoren you can spend hours walking through the gardens and interacting with the gardeners; amble down to the spruit (small river), canoe or row on the farms two dams, take out mountain bikes to explore the area, take advantage of stunning photographic opportunities, or drink in the astounding views from the Babylonstoren Koppie.
Rob’s Top Tip: You are surrounded by a plethora of award winning vineyards and wine farms here, and the food is truly sensational!! It really is a special place, and heaven for food and wine people.
Head to the unique Grootbos Private Nature Reserve for 3 nights, recently included in National Geographic’s ‘Unique Lodges of the World’. Being at the tip of southern Africa, two oceans meet and this creates one of the richest and biologically diverse marine ecosystems on the planet. Here you can explore this sensational ocean life including whale-watching (during the months of June to November), seeing the Marine ‘Big Five’ (Whales, Sharks, Seals, Penguins and Dolphins) and the equally amazing Cape Floral Kingdom. This area boasts unmatched levels of diversity, with more than three times the floral species of the Amazon Jungle! Explore the Fynbos and ancient Milkwood trees on this beautiful rugged coastline.
Rob’s Top Tip: At Grootbos plenty of activities are included - 4 x 4 flower safaris, guided nature walks, beach walks, coastal tours, cave tours, guided bird watching tours. Specialist guides are on hand so you will really be treated to a personal tour!
Last, but by no means least, the trip will end with a four night Big Five Safari ((Lions, Leopards, Rhinos, Elephants and Buffalos) experience in top luxury accommodation at Sanbona Wildlife Reserve. You will get great guiding as well as diverse flora and fauna all within a 3 hour drive away from Cape Town.
Rob’s Top Tip: They really get the kids involved in all aspects of safari life so it’s a great place for families who can stay in the Dwyka Lodge.
